The New Hazelton RCMP are once again hosting their annual Junior Youth Academy this weekend.
Constable David Kim says those aged 5 to 12 are invited to learn about policing duties and training.
“There are going to be different sessions from traffic stops, to marching to teaching them about crime scene investigations, we won’t teach them the full investigations but just an intro,” he says. “There will also be the police dog service from Terrace, ambulance service and the fire department from Gitwangak will come out too.”
Kim says they’ve been doing this since 2008 to foster a good relationship with youth and hopefully inspire a few to think about joining the RCMP one day.
The academy will be held on Saturday from 9-3 at the Gitwangak Community Hall.
