Smithers road upgrades are on the way

Smithers 2018 Road Paving Plans

Re-paving is on the way for some much-needed areas here in Smithers.

Town council announced at the budget information session that $388, 491 will be spent to upgrade four sections of road.

Frontage Road, Mountain View Drive, Princess Crescent, as well as Toronto Street, will see upgrades in the coming months.

Smithers councilor Greg Brown says the road infrastructure plan is something that always peaks the interest of area residents.

“Of course people want every road re-paved but that’s not feasible. We take many things into account when we plan this out. We simplify it by focusing on the areas we feel need attention now.”

The focus now shifts to sidewalks and curb cuts.

Council was well aware of the fact that they could not forget about high priority walking areas and have pledged $160, 000 for sidewalk and curb upgrades.

“People tend to focus more attention on roads than sidewalks and curbs. We want the public to know there is a plan in place for upgrades to high traffic walking areas.”

Work is scheduled to get underway as the weather begins to warm up.
