Opening night for Smithers Secondary’s rendition of “Chicago”

I’m sure you’ve seen the signs and heard the advertisements and finally, opening night is upon us.

Smithers Secondary presents “Chicago The Musical” tonight running through Sunday at the Della Herman Theatre.

Now you may ask, what’s the big deal?

Well, not only is it a world-renowned theatre production, but it is also one of the hottest tickets in the area.

The show on Sunday was added to the original showtimes due to an overwhelming interest that was shown by the community.

The show will be directed by drama teacher Heather Lee in coordination with music teacher Mike Doogan-Smith. After over 30 years of teaching, Doogan-Smith is retiring following this semester.

Chicago is based on real-life criminals and crimes that were reported on by Maurine Dallas Watkins. The story is told as a satire on the criminal justice system.
