“Opening night of Chicago was a success.” Drama Teacher Heather Lee

Smithers Secondary’s rendition of Chicago opened last night at the Della Herman Theatre.

Drama Teacher Heather Lee and Music Teacher Mike Doogan-Smith say opening night went according to plan.

“We’re proud of all the hard work these kids have done. Leading up to the show, it’s been pressure tested and we as instructors were certainly proud of the show they put on last night.”

Due to overwhelming support from the community, an additional show was added to Sunday.

“For Chicago, I would say that we did our least amount of advertisement and the show was sold out like that. When the community invests that sort of dedication in us, we can only reward them with another viewing,” says Doogan-Smith

Well, that support was shown and the Sunday musical was also sold out in a heartbeat.

Lee and Doogan-Smith say fans will not be disappointed with this version of Chicago.

“It leaves the viewers wanting more. These kids put in 110% everytime they go on stage. You’re very vulnerable on stage and I think these kids have shown they are more than up to the task. This show is definitely up there with some of the best that has been seen in the area.”
