Northwest well represented on new rural advisory council

Two former northwest mayors and one current one have been named to the province’s new rural advisory council.
Dave Pernarowski of Terrace, Bill Holmberg of Houston and Vanderhoof mayor Gerry Thiessen will sit on the committee that aims to provide input to the government to help rural communities thrive.
Parliamentary Secretary Donna Barnett says they narrowed the list of 87 applicants down to 14 and feels the province is well represented.
“I think it is a very good representation, we have representation from Haida Gwaii to the Peace Country to the Kootenays to Agassiz, Port McNeill– I think we’ve covered every part,” she says.
The group will meet four times a year to discuss rural economic development and access to capital and business support.
