One mountain’s misfortune is another’s gain.
A lack of snow has pushed the National Ski Cross Championship from Tabor Mountain in Prince George to Hudson Bay Mountain.
Smithers Ski Club President Gary Huxtable says despite the short notice, the town is ready to host the event.
He says work is now underway to upgrade the hill’s track that is used to train young athletes.
“Obviously with world cup racers coming to the event, we have to build the track up bigger and make the jumps bigger and make it more spectacular and more challenging for them,” he says. “We brought in a builder from out of town that is currently on the mountain now building up those features.”
Skiers and volunteers will start arriving this weekend and races start Tuesday. The awards ceremony will be held on Thursday at Bovill Square.
