Telkwa recycling audit

BC Recycling held an audit in the Telkwa region recently.

The audit aimed towards finding out the levels of contaminants within each resident’s blue recycling bags.

Of the 170 residents, the audit found that:

  • 30% of homes had blue bags out,
  • 4.8% contained foam,
  • 8% contained filmy plastics (grocery bags),
  • 9% contained multi-laminate products,
  • and 12% contained other items such as toys, buckets, etc.

The Village of Telkwa has set a goal to reduce recycling contamination to under 3%. Telkwa officials are reminding residents that whatever cannot be accepted by curbside pickup can be taken to the Smithers-Telkwa Transfer Station.

To see if you are recycling properly, more information can be found here.
