Heritage Park near the Smithers Arena’s will be hosting intro to women’s soccer this evening from 7-9 pm.

Organizer Kala Hooker gives us the details on what to expect heading into the evening.

“The cost is $10 and it’s for women of any age or skill level looking to either learn about soccer or continue their playing career. Tonight’s event is going to be coached by Dan Imhof who has a world of experience in soccer and it couldn’t have been done without the help of Georgia Mack either. ”

Hooker hopes that participants will enjoy the event so much that they may decide to join the women’s soccer league here in Smithers.

“We actually have 6 teams in the league,” says Hooker ” one from Hazelton and the remainder from Smithers. If the ladies like what they see at tonight’s intro event, they are more than welcome to join the league. Registration per player will cost you roughly $120 for the season and you will play a minimum of one game a week until mid-July.”

Hooker continued on by saying women’s sports are quite popular in this area and encourages local residents to take a break from their regular routine.

“It’s an important part of my life. We’re all so busy with struggles of reality and recreational sports offer a bit of relaxation. It’s a nice way to meet people as well as keep fit and have fun.”
