Donation account set up to aid lost belongings in Hislop Road fire.

When disaster strikes, communities in Northern BC rally, and that is why a donation account has been set up by the Bulkley Valley Credit Union to aid Roger Benham and Jeannie Boyce, who lost their home and all of their belongings in the fire near Hislop Road Monday evening.

Ruth Lloyd from the local Credit Union explains how this fire has impacted both Benham and Boyce.

“They were able to escape the blaze with literally the clothes on their back. Every precious item that held some sort of value in their life, is gone. That is why we have set up this account. All proceeds raised will go directly to the aid of both Benham and Boyce, and there are no fees attached to this file.”

If you want to support the cause, you may do so one of two ways.

You may either go into the Bulkley Valley Credit Union and speak with a representative or use e-transfer. The donation account information is:

  • Account # 17174068, “Donations for Roger and Jeannie”

Lloyd knows the Bulkley Valley can offer the support both Benham and Boyce are looking for in their time of need.

“The special thing about living in Smithers and the Bulkley Valley is when something like this does happen, you’re not totally alone. There are friends and maybe some you didn’t know all that well that will help you through the dark times. It’s amazing how this community rallies together to help one another and it makes living here so very special.”
