Some drivers not getting the message to stop at Queen and Third

After a recent collision and several complaints from residents, the town of Smithers is taking measures to make a new four way stop safer.
Director of Development Services Mark Allen says they are talking with the RCMP and ICBC on ways to reduce accident rates for Queen and Third.
“In the short term, we are planning on replacing our standard stop signs with a larger size, a three foot sign,” he says. “The current standard in town is two feet.”
Allen says they will also paint the crosswalk lines as soon as the weather cooperates.
The new stop signs have been in place for about six months.
