Airport looking for new cafe contractor

The Smithers Regional Airport is losing their current cafe contractor and the town is scrambling to find some sort of replacement.
Bugwood Bean has given notice that they will not be carrying on their contract come May 26th.
A meeting was held today to discuss who and what the town wants in there next, as tax payers subsidize the service … to the tune of about $50,000 a year.
There were talks of just putting in vending machines but airport manager Rob Blackburn says having real people for visitors to talk to is an asset for the airport.
“I think it will be a good opportunity for the airport to find a new contractor for our cafe,” he says. “I think we are going to rely heavily on the market to tell us what they can provide so we can get the best we can get.”
Councillors decided to put out a request for proposals and are hoping lots of different options come in as they aren’t sure yet what sort of level of service they want.
