Ice coming out of both arenas

The indoor skating season in Smithers is now over.
Director of Recreation Andrew Hillaby says the ice in both of the arenas has started to come out.
“There just isn’t the demand through April, May and June for ice time,” he says. “I think in a northern community, as soon as the sun comes out in the spring and summer, we all want to be outside. But then we get full uptake come September and on.”
This was the first season for the second sheet of ice and Hillaby says it went well and there was great feedback from the community.
The arenas will be used through out the spring and summer for other events, such as trade shows, expos and school graduations.
