Another great success for the Bjorganic Music Festival in Smithers

The third annual Bjorganic Music Festival took over Bovill Square on the weekend and provided a unique opportunity to support students in the region.

The concert was a fundraising initiative which sent all the proceeds of the event directly into bursaries for music students in the region.

Although this year’s concert didn’t raise as much money as it has in the past, it was all in all a great show.

Jon Bjorgan is the Music Teacher at the Bjorgan Music Studio and the founder of the scholarships and explains the importance of offering this service to students in the Bulkley Valley and Lakes District.

“Three years ago was when I had my lightbulb moment about creating this scholarship and since then it has been a great success. The money will directly help students that plan on pursuing music on a post-secondary level. We also have smaller bursaries that support them for music related items as they move on to the next phase of their music career. We have some great talent here in the Bulkley Valley and Lakes District and I’m curious to see where my student’s ventures take them. There is a lot of potential for some of these kids to have a profession in the music industry which is incredibly exciting.”

In the inaugural year of the Bjorganic Music Festival, the concert was able to raise $4,000. There was also a separate donation of $25,000 made by an anonymous donor within the community.
