Burns Lake mayor to sit on enviro/economy roundtable

The B.C. Minister of Environment has announced a new roundtable on the environment and the economy and the mayor of Burns Lake is a participant.

The roundtable includes communities, industry, labour, environmental and First Nations reps who will meet regularly with government.

Burns Lake mayor Luke Strimbold explains,

“I think we as British Columbians have a value in our environment. We live in B.C. because of the things that are natural that our earth offers us. So what we are trying to do is have a look at our environmental values and then also look at the economy and find a balance.”

Strimbold says the group had their first meeting in Vancouver last week to get to know everyone at the table and hear a presentation from London Drugs on the company’s recycling initiatives.

He says the group will now outline the goals for upcoming meetings and will get together every few months.

Anyone interested can see meeting summaries on the Ministry of Environment website.
