ICBC has announced an initiative known as “Two Strikes” to combat speeding across the Province of BC.
Smithers RCMP and Smithers Community Policing have decided to use this tool, as a way to slow down motorists in the region.
So how does it work? Essentially, this is a speed trap system.
Volunteers will find high traffic areas where they will set up clearly visible speed signs, as well as, a radar monitor to show motorists their current speed. Down the road, RCMP will be waiting to see if drivers decide to follow the rules of the road. If they ignore these warnings, they will be ticketed accordingly under the appropriate motor vehicle act.
