Smithers council will be holding a special public meeting to announce the new budget tomorrow night.

Mayor Taylor Bachrach says the meeting is a chance for residents to hear the highlights from the new budget.

“So tomorrow night we are going to have our public presentation of the 2014 budget. This is the biggest bylaw of the year and it basically outlines how council is going to spend the revenue that we collect from taxpayers in the community.”

Earlier this year council hosted a let’s talk budget forum to gauge the priorities from local residents in planning the new budget.

“We have been doing a number of things to help make the budget more understandable and encourage people to engage in the process. That includes the Let’s talk Budget session…and I have put some stuff together and out it out on social media. So we really do encourage people to come out for the presentation.”

Bachrach says council will go over the budget and the public will have an opportunity to comment or ask questions about the documents before it is made official at a later meeting.

The meeting starts at 6:30 pm tomorrow night.
