A group in Hazelton has received the honour of one of Canada’s top 10 change makers by Tides Canada, a national foundation focused on people and the environment.

Among this year’s national top 10 list is Hazelton’s Storytellers’ Foundation, a group which operates various programs in the community.

Here’s Storyteller’s director of operations, Beth DeMaio, “We do practical work on the ground hosting community kitchens, backyard gardeners, kid’s after school programs, youth work social enterprise and other community learning activities.”

She says the foundation also partners to create local infrastructure such as safe and secure housing but the work Tides is celebrating is promoting collaboration between First Nations, government and environmental organizations.

Tides Canada says the awards showcase groups using unique approaches to addressing challenging issues across the country.
