Dan Hamhuis on buying PG Cougars

Vancouver Canuck, Dan Hamhuis is speaking out about joining with investors and former Prince George players to purchase the PG Cougars.

Hamhuis says Prince George has a special place in his heart after playing on the team for four years and he has dreamed about buying a junior team.

“It’s something that I have thought about in the past. There are other NHL guys who have bought junior teams and it is really unique and special when you can buy the one that you played for. It’s always kind of been in the back of my mind and the opportunity came up and it was good timing for me. I really like the other partners in the group and it was just a good fit.”

He says he will likely stay out of the business side of things and be more hands on with the hockey, focusing his strengths as a pro on the players.

“I hope to be able to use some of that knowledge I have. I look forward to meeting the kids and just talking to them about hockey and about their careers and trying to encourage them in that way.”

He says the team has a great foundation with talented players and the new owners are excited to work with everyone to create a successful team.

“That’s our goal and we are going to demand that out of ourselves, out of staff and out of the players…I think they have a very bright future.”
