School District 54 is giving notice that it is closing down the Bulkley Valley Learning Centre in Smithers.
Assistant superintendent, Mike McDiarmid says the facility has been sitting empty for a couple years and the programs have shifted to the college.
“We are actually just closing the physical building because there aren’t any kids there and there hasn’t been for a couple of years. The program was relocated to the Northwest Community College a couple of years ago.”
He says the building used to house the alternative school program but now those students are cross enrolled between the high school and the college.
A 60-day period is open where the public can provide input on the closure which will result in a final decision.
