Smithers company considered for diversity award

Smithers-based UTM Exploration Services has received an honourable mention from the 2014 BC Mining HR Diversity Awards.

Co-chair of the award committee, Jill Tsolinas says the mining company was a runner up for the award based on their company policies and work environment.

“UTM was considered for the award because they are very inclusive of diversity in their workforce. They have created a number of company policies which substantiate encouraging diversity within their group but also providing a tool set and a work environment that is supportive of diversity.”

She says UTM provides flexible work hours for employees with families, on the job training to boost employee skill sets and the company encourages a diverse work force including women, First Nations and youth.

Tsolina says the BC Mining HR Diversity Award seeks out companies that promote diversity in the workplace.

This year’s winner was Tech Resources.
