Smithers oldest resident is celebrating another birthday.
Alma Lacey is 104-years-old today.
Lacey’s daughter Jackie Hoskins says Alma was born in 1910, lived most of her life in Manitoba and moved to Smithers 20 years ago.
She says her mother’s secret to a long life is healthy eating.
“She believes in good, home-cooked and very balanced meals. She is not a junk food eater but because she is Swedish she has sweets every day and she says ‘Sweets should be sweet, I like my sweets sweet’ …But she is really careful about her food. She always has bananas and oranges and apples and makes sure she has half a glass of milk at supper and lunch, just those wise eating habits.”
At 104, Alma still enjoys the news and hockey and visits with friends and Hoskins says it’s her mother’s drive and zest for life that has gotten her this far.
The family will celebrate tonight with dinner and cake.
