It's that time again – Forest fire season is here

The Northwest Fire Centre says so far since the weather warmer up there has been nineteen forest fire starts.

The Fire Centre’s Olivia Pojar says all were human-caused fires.

“The fire danger for the Northwest Fire Centre is currently moderate with patches of high around houston, Kitwanga and Telegraph Creek.”

She says with the weather getting hotter and drier the Fire Centre warns anyone camping i the area to use extra caution when burning and to fully extinguish campfires before leaving them unattended.

“Before fire season we encourage communities and individuals to learn more about the fire smart program. Just focusing on reducing the risk of wild fires around homes and communities.”
