The town of Smithers has deemed the first season for the new arena a success but the question remains, what do we call it?
The idea for a second sheet of ice took twenty years to come to fruition and residents seemed to enjoy it this winter however, it still doesn’t have name.
Mayor Taylor Bachrach says there isn’t a real reason for the nameless new arena.
“There were some discussions a while back for names,” he says. “But for the first season we have been tied up with getting the operating figured out and get things running smoothly and getting folks in there skating. So it really hasn’t been on the top of our list.”
Bachrach says the town doesn’t have any top contenders for names and will likely think about it in the future.
