The cause of the fire in downtown Telkwa is still under investigation.
Deputy Fire Chief Stuart McKinnon says crews were called out on Saturday night to the blaze behind the one stop on Highway 16.
“It was a grass fire until it got into the trees,” he says. “It started to run fairly quickly up the hill but it was stopped before it spread too far.”
McKinnon says there was no damage to the convenience store or the nearby hot dog stand.
While the cause is still unknown, McKinnon wants to remind people of the dangers of burning at this time of the year because everything is so dry.
