Painting street lines to start soon

Smithers council has awarded the traffic marking contract.
The town is responsible for maintaining the painted markings on its paved streets and parking lots.
Yellowhead Pavement will do the work for just over $40,000.
However Councillor Frank Wray brought up concerns at Tuesday night’s meeting.
“They aren’t really lasting long enough,” he says. “Especially the crosswalks and the traffic markings for the turn lanes are erased when the snow melts. My concern is basically that this paint isn’t lasting long enough.”
Town staff says there are pilot projects going on with different methods but for now, this is the only way to do it.
Yellowhead Paving will start once the streets have all been swept.
