New Hazelton are warning the public after an attempted sexual assault and abduction took place late Saturday night in Hagwilget.
Detachment Commander Sergeant Hernandez says a female youth was walking alone on a trail in the area of Churchill Road and 5th Avenue.
She told police an unknown person placed a hoody over her head, picked her up and tried to carry her into a trailer. She fought off her assailant and managed to escape and run away unharmed. The victim is now in the comfort of her family.
RCMP are advising people to be cognizant, diligent and walk with friends in well-lit areas.
New Hazelton RCMP are continuing with their investigation. Anyone with information about this incident or sees anything suspicious is urged to call the detachment at 250-842-5244.
