Smithers Junior Softball looking for volunteers

Last week it was the Houston soccer team, but now it’s the Smithers Junior Softball club looking for volunteers.

Club president Scott Groves says that his kids have grown up and now it’s time to pass the torch along to a new generation of parents.

“Smithers Junior Softball has been around in the Bulkley Valley for quite a few years — I myself have been involved for roughly the last 11, 12 years — and my kids have got to that stage where they’re past it and we are looking for some new people to step up.”

The club is looking for a new president and treasurer, however Groves says that additional volunteers are also always needed.

He adds that softball is a great sport for kids to get into because of its relatively cheap costs.

“Softball is one of the most affordable sports in town for the kids to play … it’s something that’s affordable and we get kids of all different skill levels out.”

Interested in getting involved? The Smithers Junior Softball club is holding a meeting at 7 p.m. on March 26 at Coast Mountain GM in Smithers to look for volunteers.
