Smithers Secondary Wins National Green Award

Smithers Secondary School has been named one of the greenest schools in the nation.
The school’s “Youth for a Better World / Green team” has been selected as the “2015 Staples Canada Superpower Your School Contest.”
While everyone is doing their part to make a cleaner school, Green Team head Sally Cunningham said it was their year round greenhouse that really impressed the judges.
“Now we are using it for staff lunches and salads. The staff buy our greens and we’ll be using it in the foods program and we’re just finding more and more ways to use the produce,” she says.
Of the 600 applicants, Smithers Secondary was one of ten schools chosen to receive the award.
The Gryphons will also receive $25,000 for their environmental initiatives, which will go towards new technology for the school.
