Luckily for everyone on the North Coast, Friday’s earthquake was far enough away to do any damage. In fact, it may actually do more good than harm.
Seismologist John Cassidy says that Friday’s earthquake will actually beneficial people in the area down the road.
“We have many more instruments on the ground now so [it’s] really a good opportunity to learn about the ground shaking and learn more about earthquakes in that region,” he says.
Cassidy says that this was the best recorded earthquake ever in the region.
All the data recorded will be analyzed to help engineers designing buildings, bridges, and dams in the future.
