Smithers’ Safeway had been receiving donations for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation since May 1st, and funded a grand total of $19,140.
First Assistant Manager Craig Woodward says the fundraising was successful because of thoughtful community members, saying “Thank you to the community and thank you to everyone!”
Woodward believes that everyone can empathize with the illness.
“Everyone’s been touched by breast cancer. I think it’s one of those things that everyon’es been touched by and everyone wants to get behind and see if we can find a cure or just do whatever we can,” he says.
The grand total well surpassed the companies initial goal of $11,000.
With each donation, shoppers were entered into a draw for 100,000 air miles. That winner will be drawn on May 21.
