Health Benefits of Bike to Work Week

Bike to work Week begins Monday and Northern Health wants you to participate and stay healthy.

Recent Canadian statistics shows that only 13% of boys aged 5-17 meet the minimum recommendation for daily physical activity. Only 6% of girls aged 5-17 reach that mark, and only 20% of adults.

Northern BC Wellness Director Anne Pousette (poo-set) says this week is a great way to change these statistics.

“You have to actually think about it and choose and plan for some active transportation it’s something we can do and it’s something that can empower us to improve our health, moderate some of the medical things we may be dealing with, and decrease our health of developing chronic diseases,” she says.

Northern Health also reminds everyone to stay safe throughout the week by wearing a helmet, using hand signals, and following signs.
