A Northern BC woman’s unique “West Coast Urban Landscape Paintings” will be on display at the Smithers Art Gallery this month.
Vancouver artists Suzo Hickey was originally born in Prince Rupert, and has made a name for herself by painting unique, and often overlooked, urban scenes.
Manager Caroline Bastable is excited to have these unique paintings at her Gallery, saying that “[Hickey] takes a very ordinary subject and makes it extraordinary. [Her paintings] really quite beautiful and colourful and there’s something quite soulful about them.”
Hickey will be at the Gallery Wednesday for a free presentation on her creative process. It’s free and Bastable says and that she will provide the tea and coffee.
The exhibition’s opening reception will be on Friday June 5, from 7-9pm. The exhibition will run until July 4th.
