SD54 track meet today

Young athletes were out of their seats and onto the field today for the Bulkley Valley District Track Meet.

There were nine elementary schools from Moricetown to Houston competing through nine events.

St. Joe’s Carwyn Mitchell was today’s winner in the girls 1500 m race and lets us in on her training secrets.

“I ran the track at night sometimes,” she says.

It was a competitive race, one filled with competitors from around the Bulkley Valley. Carwyn explains her key to success.

“You got a little bit fast at the start, then you slow down, then you go really fast at the end.”

Organizer and Walnut Park Principal Mark Fehr realises competitions like this can be pretty competitive.

“They can be but then again it’s also about fun, it’s about sportsmanship and cheering each other on. So there’s a lot that goes into it and a lot that comes out of it for all the kids,” he says.

Today’s winners take home a trophy to be displayed at their school. The winning school is currently being calculated.
