The Town of Smithers has just announced it has purchased the lot adjacent to Bovill Square.
The 25-foot-wide lot has sat vacant since there was a fire on the property in August 2013.
While nothing is planned for the property yet, Mayor Taylor Bachrach says that “Council saw an opportunity” in buying the lot.
He also says that the Town wanted to “[secure] the lot a little bit to have more control over the future development of the site,” and to “ensure that it is compatible, and ideally enhances the experience of Bovill Square.”
The town bought the property from John Perry of Perry & Company, who’s family had operated the property from 1951 until the 2013 fire.
