New Airport Runway Building Approved

As well as changes inside to the airport hospitality personnel, there will be a few new additions outside.

Council has approved the construction of a $646 000 Airport Runway Equipment Storage Building with a few green amendments of their own. It will be built by Canadian Craftsmen Builders.

Council chose to have in-floor piping and have recommended that staff research electric heaters to replace the initially planned natural gas ones.

Mayor Taylor Bachrach says the building will serve an important purpose.

“Obviously, at the airport we have a high priority which is that we’ve bought some very expensive new equipment with grants from the Federal government,” he says, “and we want to make sure it has a warm place.”

The airport needs a heated area to keep its machines warm through the winter to keep them from freezing in storage.

Council will continue to look into green ways to run the building and keep the machinery working.
