COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Smithers, Burns Lake

COVID-19 cases have continued to increase in both Smithers and Burns Lake Local Health Areas.

196 new cases were identified in the Smithers Local Health Area from January 2 to 8, this is as 77% of community members are fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, in the Burns Lake Local Health Area 31 new cases were reported.

In the region, 75% of residents are fully vaccinated.

Both Smithers and Burns Lake case rates have also increased with the Smithers region identifying 168 cases per 100,000.

In Burns Lake, the case rate is 63 cases reported per 100,000 people.

Vaccination rates for children have also increased.

For children 5 to 11, 24% of kids have had a dose of a COVID-19 vaccine in the Smithers LHA and 27% of children in the Burns Lake Local Health Area have received a single dose of a vaccine.

Residents across the province are being encouraged to book their third dose of a COVID-19 vaccine through the Get Vaccinated website.
