Smithers Fire Rescue Statement on Open Fire Ban

Smithers Fire Rescue has recognised the Provincial open fire ban and released the following statement:

OPEN FIRE BAN
Effective as of 12:00 PM
Monday, July 6th, 2015

Until further notice open fires within the municipality of the Town of Smithers are prohibited.

This ban does not restrict fires in stoves using gas, propane, or briquettes.
The open fire ban is in effect to protect life safety, and to limit the risk of person caused fires.

To report a fire, please call 911.
Thank you for your attention to safety.

This ban was initially put into place on Thursday, July 2nd at noon for the Coast Mountain Forest, Nadina Forest, and Skeena Stikine Forest Districts.

On July 3rd, the ban became BC-wide.

Consequences range anywhere between a $345 fine to one-year imprisonment.
