New Hazelton RCMP Report: July 2nd – 8th

New Hazelton RCMP responded to 93 calls between July 2nd and July 8th.

On Friday, July 3rd, Police responded to a call regarding an alleged impaired driver in Gitwangak.

RCMP found the vehicle and the driver provided a breath sample to an approved screening device.

The driver failed the screening and is on a 90-day driving prohibition.

The driver’s silver truck has been impounded.

On Monday, July 6th, Police stopped a Pontiac Grand Am at a traffic stop on Bridge St in Kitwanga.

RCMP learned the driver was breaching his probation following a previous alcohol-related offence.

The driver’s vehicle was impounded.

Charges of driving while prohibited are pending.

RCMP remind residents to stay safe on the roads and drive sober.

Wednesday, July 8th, Police and fire crews attended a bush fire along Hwy 16 near Coyote Creek.

The fire lead to a temporary shutdown of the highway.

Airborne and ground-based fire crews worked quickly to contain the fire.

No injuries were reported although one outbuilding was destroyed.
