Police SUV crash, 3 saved at “Idiot Rock:” Smithers’ RCMP Weekly Report

Smithers RCMP responded to 109 calls during the week of July 16th – 22nd.

Around 2:30 AM last Saturday, July 18th Police received a phone call from a distressed woman near Lake Kathlyn and Highway 16.

While walking her dog, a man drove up and asked her if she wanted a ride.

She denied him, yet he continued to follow and ask her. He only fled when the woman called RCMP

The man was driving an older, grey, single cab Toyota or Datsun, pickup truck.

Police couldn’t find the vehicle or the man at the time and are asking the public to come forward with any information they might have.
Later that day, an RCMP SUV and a transport truck collided on Highway 16 near 19th avenue.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call the local detachment.

Police were called to a capsized boat at “Idiot Rock,” near Moricetown on Tuesday, July 21st.

An adult male and two young children were believed to have fallen into the water.

Two citizens in their own boats were able to locate the three victims

No injuries were reported.

Police offer thanks to the community members who were able to assist in this emergency and encourage all to wear life preservers when near water.
