Smithers Bylaw Officer leaving the community

The Town of Smithers is losing a key member of its community.

Prevention and Community Safety Officer Matt Davey submitted his resignation after his wife Nicole Davey accepted a new job with School District 68 Nanaimo Ladysmith.

During this evening’s (Tuesday) council meeting gratitude was expressed by council members, staff and Mayor Gladys Atrill for the work Davey has done at the Town.

Mayor Gladys Atrill said not only has he done a lot of work with the Town but in the Town as well.

“You have touched a lot of people so, for a person who may be known as the community police officer or the bylaw enforcement officer but what I have witnessed in the time I’ve seen you work is an amazing compassion and a kindness,” she said.

Atrill added that Davey keeps the kindness even while frustrated in the most amazing way.

She also said she is grateful to have witnessed that in action.

“Know that you have touched many people, the folks who are never going to be able to say that and the rest of us who have witnessed the work that you’ve done so, thank you,” Atrill said.

Davey responded to the words by saying he is going to miss the Smithers community.

Town Staff are currently in the process of looking for a replacement for Davey.
