Category 2 and 3 burning prohibitions rescinded in the Northwest Fire Centre

The Northwest Fire Centre says the open fire prohibitions that have been in effect since the end of July have been rescinded.

As of 2:00 this afternoon (Tuesday) Category 2 and 3 burning are now allowed.

According to the NWFC, cooler temperatures and recent precipitation have greatly reduced the wildfire risk.

It added that the public continues to be strongly encouraged to exercise caution with any outdoor burning and campfire use and that it is the responsibility of the individual to ensure that burning is done in a safe and responsible manner.

The NWFC is reminding anyone who wishes to conduct category 2 burning should always check the Ventilation Index and anyone who wishes to conduct Category 3 burning must obtain a burn registration number ahead of time.

Currently, there are 11 wildfires burning across the Northwest Fire Centre.

Nine are listed as out of control and two are under control.
