Brief police pursuit initiated following reports of break and enters in Smithers

Police have arrested two people following a break and enter and an attempted break and enter in Smithers.

Yesterday (Thursday) at around 3:30 p.m. Smithers RCMP received a report of a break and enter.

The homeowner received serious injuries and was later taken to hospital following an altercation.

According to police, the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle and video surveillance in the area provided images of the suspects.

A suspicious vehicle report was received and the description matched the suspect vehicle.

Smithers RCMP added that following the report police received a call of an attempted break and enter with the same description of the suspects provided.

BC Highway Patrol then located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop where the driver, an adult woman, was removed from the vehicle and arrested.

The passenger of the vehicle, an adult man got in the driver’s seat and fled the area with one other person in the vehicle.

A brief pursuit was initiated because of the level of violence and crime spree but was soon shut down in the interest of public safety.

The vehicle was located and a suspect was arrested nearby and remains in custody.

The female has been released from police custody.

No further information is available as the investigation is ongoing.
