Telkwa BBQ returns in its full capacity this weekend

The Telkwa BBQ and derby will be celebrating its 110th birthday this weekend at the Telkwa Community Grounds.

It kicks off this evening with the slow pitch tournament at the Telkwa Ball Diamonds from 6 to 8pm.

Other events that will be occurring this weekend are the annual beef on a bun, the demo derby, live music and a dance.

President of the Bulkley Valley Kinsmen Lonny Wiebe said the group wanted to make the event bigger for the 110th anniversary.

“We wanted to bring back some of the music components of it because we haven’t had the opportunity to use that outdoor stage for a few years now so, I myself kind of took that on to chair the music part of the event,” he said.

Wiebe added that the dance will also be returning this year as it was not held last year because of the pandemic.

He also said that this year has been the largest supported Telkwa BBQ financially.

“Businesses have always been extremely generous over the years but they’ve been outstanding this year and supporting it is very much appreciated,” Wiebe said.

A full schedule can be found on the Telkwa BBQ Facebook page.

According to the BV Kinsmen, the Telkwa BBQ is one of the longest annual events in the province.
