Canada looking to ban replacement workers at federally-regulated sectors

Federal Labour Minister Seamus O’Regan admits that the business community is “not entirely happy” with the government’s plans to introduce a bill that would forbid the hiring of replacement workers during strikes in federally-regulated industries.

But he says it’s the “natural evolution” of workers’ rights.

The federal government took the next step in drafting the bill yesterday, with the launch of public consultations.

O’Regan adds legislation itself will be introduced next year.

B-C and Quebec have similar restrictions at the provincial level.
