UPDATE: Dieleman takes Silver in Breaststroke

Jonathan Dieleman has won a silver medal in the Men’s 50m Breaststroke “SB3” at the Parapan American Games in Toronto

Dieleman was the man to beat Tuesday afternoon after setting a Parapan record earlier in the day. His qualifying time was 54.57 seconds, nearly two seconds faster than the old record (56.50 seconds) set in 2011.

It was a close finish in the final heat. The 30-year-old Smithereen timed in at 55.68 seconds, just behind Mexican winner Gustavo Sanchez’s 55.37 seconds.

Dieleman will race in the Men’s 50m Freestyle “S5” – Heat 2 Wednesday at 6:35 AM PDT. The heat will not be an easy one; his qualifying time (1:00.45 minutes) is the slowest of the five competitors by over 15 seconds and world record holder Daniel Dias will be in lane 4 (31.94 seconds).
