The man accused of shooting an innocent victim in Prince Rupert has passed away.
According to the RCMP, the 44-year-old was transported to hospital in critical conditon but has since succumbed to his injuries.
Police were called to the Ocean Centre Mall just after 8:30 yesterday (Monday) morning where they believe the suspect, shot the victim, who was later identified as a 52-year-old woman before attempting to take his own life.
The RCMP found it was not an active shooter situation, but an isolated incident between two people.
Both were known to each other.
His identity will not be released at this time.
“The Prince Rupert RCMP is here to stand by and serve the community during this tough time,” Cst. Brody Hemrich said, “the investigation is still ongoing and we are still asking those who may have seen anything, have dash camera footage or security footage to come forward.”

Prince Rupert RCMP was called to the Ocean Centre Mall this morning on a priority 1 call for shots fired.
Some members who were in the area responded immediately, and quickly determined it was not an active shooter, and that it was an isolated incident between two people.
Police say the suspect, a 44-year-old male, is believed to have shot the victim, a 52-year-old woman, before attempting to take his own life.
The two individuals were known to each other.
The woman was pronounced dead on scene, and the man was taken to hospital, and is currently in critical condition.
“It’s still in the early stage of the investigation and therefore, limited details can be released at this time,” said Cst Gabriel Gravel, Media Relations officer of the Prince Rupert RCMP.
The Prince Rupert RCMP want to reassure the public there is no active threat at this time.
The public is also asked to avoid the Ocean Centre Mall while police conduct their investigation.
The mall has also been closed to the public until further notice.

They were reportedly called to the mall shortly after 8:30 this morning. (Monday)
Upon arrival, police say one person was deceased and another was critically injured.
People in the area are being asked to avoid the Ocean Centre Mall as police work to gather evidence.
“We know the traumatic impact this incident will have on many people and we have supports in place to assist those that may need help,” said S/Sgt. Dave Uppal of the Prince Rupert RCMP.
