Smithers will be flooded with professional athletes and familiar faces this weekend as part of the Celebrity Golf Tournament and Hockey game.

The events begin with the sold-out hockey game, where fans can enjoy legends like Bobby Orr, Joe Watson, and the Hanson Brothers.

Also on the ice will be current Vancouver Canucks defenseman and hometown hero Dan Hamhuis, who says there are a few goals to this weekends’ events.

“A good turn out financially; obviously we want to put on a good show and show off Smithers a bit too,” he says. “It’s a lot of fun and it’s great to have out-of-town people and celebrities come up and see our part of the world. It’s going to be a fun tournament and it’s a great way to raise money.”

Puck drop is 7:15 PM Thursday evening. Golfing events begin Friday with autographs, practise rounds, and long drive competitions, before Saturday morning’s tee off.

All proceeds will remain in the community, mostly funding Bulkley Valley District Hospital maternity ward upgrades.

Celebrities will be signing autographs at the following places Friday morning:
