Yee brings Hazelton double Gold

There is an abundance of Gold Medals headed back to Northern BC from the Western Canada Summer Games.

Hazelton’s Track and field Runner Regan Yee recently returned home after winning gold in both her events.

She was the fastest runner in a close 1500m sprint and blew away the competition by 38 seconds en route to a women’s 2000m steeplechase gold.

The 20-year-old says it’s special representing the North.

“It feels good! I really do wish there was more participation from the North and more athletes getting out there and representing the North,” she says, “so hopefully when they see it’s possible to get out there and do well for your area, more athletes will join track & field, join other sports, and compete.”

Yee also participated in the Universiade Games in South Korea earlier this summer. She finished in 7th place in the 3000m steeplechase on the world stage.

Yee says she’s looking forward to some down time before starting her third year at Trinity Western University, where she will begin running in cross country competitions.
