Above average April showers recorded in the Bulkley Valley and Lakes

Environment Canada is calling for the weather to fluctuate this month after April brought above average rainfall in the Bulkley Valley and Lakes District.

Meteorologist Bobby Sekhon said the there was a wet period close to the end of the month.

“A wet period in the middle to the third week of April. Ended up with about 120% normal precipitation amounts.”

Normally, the area would see 23.8 millimetres of rain on average, with this year hitting 28.5 millimetres.

Sekhon added April’s average temperature was low compared to other years.

“Smithers is normally at 4.8 degrees Celsius and this month it was slightly below that at 4.6 degrees.”

There are signs temperatures will be above average, he said, with fluctuations throughout the month.

“For example, we’re seeing some warm weather continuing for most of the work week however, we’re going to transition to more normal or slightly below normal temperatures through the weekend into next week.”

Environment Canada is calling for tomorrow (Tuesday) to be the hottest day of the week with highs of 22 degrees in Smithers and 23 in Burns Lake.
