Bulkley riverbank erosion being corrected along Rosenthal Road

Bulkley River erosion along Rosenthal Road is being addressed by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

According to Smithers Director of Development Services Mark Allen, the issue has been ongoing since the 1970s.

“There used to be a house at the bottom of Rosenthal hill and that had to be removed from site in 2011. That is what triggered the town to monitor the whole bank situation.”

Since then, the town has been applying for grants to protect the bank and in 2018, a consultant was hired to design the protection works.

The work is being done in collaboration with the Town of Smithers and the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako.

If you have any concerns about road conditions, you can call the Ministry at 1-250-847-7403
